[ FOCUS ] Iva, Senior Business Manager at MCA Engineering Nederland

Today on the blog we give you insights of the day-to-day work life of Iva, Senior Business Manager at MCA Engineering Nederland.

She answered some of our questions :

Hello Iva, it’s a pleasure to interview you today! Could you present yourself quickly?

Hi, sure, let me give you the highlights. I’m 29 years old, born and raised in Bulgaria. At 19 I moved out of my home to the capital where I did my BSc Degree in Sociology. During my studies I spent 2 summers in the USA for a summer job and opportunity to travel. At the age of 23 I came to the Netherlands to do my MSc Degree in Organization Studies and here I am 6 years later.

Once I read this quote somewhere that you should have 3 hobbies: one creative, one to keep you in shape and one to make money from. So, I like to let my creativity out with painting and writing; I play tennis, go to the gym, and occasionally try to do yoga, and I keep my mind busy with reading on topics I am interested in.

For me what is important is to be kind to others, grateful for what you have and to think critically!

Talent Acquisition Consultant for MCA Engineering Nederland was your first job. How did you first get in touch with MCA, and what convinced you to join this team?

Well long story short, I was introduced to Pascal by a common acquaintance. I was looking for a job at that time and Pascal was looking for a recruiter. To be honest I didn’t know what to expect from the job with no technical background but decided to give it a shot. When I joined, we were a very small team, I think about 5 people and that offered a lot of freedom and creativity. I think this was what triggered me to take the job.

Previously, you were working as a freelance writer? What was it all about?

During a networking event I met the owner of a Recruitment agency and we had a very nice get-to-know conversation. After a few days she called me and asked if I was interested to help them with managing their online blog on the topics of Diversity and Change Management. And that’s how our partnership started. I am passionate about both topics and I was given a platform where I could share my thoughts and idea.

You were Business Manager and now Senior BM. What are your main missions on a day to day basis? Your main challenges?

What I do on day-to-day basis is “putting out fires”. Joke aside, as a Business Manager, I see myself as a hub in a network. On the one hand side, I help my clients finding the right talent. On the other hand, I help my team of engineers to develop themselves personally and professionally. With seniority the business network and responsibilities grow. My main challenge will move from not just growth but sustaining as well.

In your opinion, what are the best things about working in Eindhoven? What are the main opportunities brought by the city?

Eindhoven is a very innovative city in all different disciplines from Engineering to Business. It is a welcoming environment for entrepreneurship and I like that.

And what would be your next step, career wise?

There are some interesting projects pending, let’s see how things will develop.

If you had to describe MCA in 3 words, what would they be?

Well, in 3 “words”: high expectations, ambitious people, result-driven mindset.

What is your favorite MCA memory so far?

There are quite some to pick from. The last seminar in Malta was one to remember! The Dutch summer event two years ago was lovely. But overall, my favorite memories are always related with conversations with people, inside jokes, silly moments.

If you had the opportunity to work for a year in one of MCA’s subsidiary, which one would you pick and why? 😊

Sweden. Fredrik and the whole team are really fun, who wouldn’t want to work with them.

If you had to be one of Friends tv show character, who would you be and why?

Can I pick Robin from How I Met Your Mother instead? She is just a badass.

If you could escape on holiday for a week where would you go?

I would definitely go high up to a cabin in Norway in winter time.

Last but not least… Any fun fact about you? 😊

Well, let me tell you a funny story. Our previous office was located in a building shared by other companies, one of which was PwC. That would be about 6 storey tall building. So 3 years ago I had the whole building evacuated, almost 200 people standing outside in the cold in the middle of December… because I burned a blueberry muffin in the microwave.
